Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine and can occur at many stages of a child’s life: from childhood to adolescence. Scoliosis assessment is included in Osana’s initial assessment.

During the assessment, we will identify the type and severity of scoliosis. This will determine the appropriate treatment plan, such as physiotherapy scoliosis specific exercises and provide medical referrals as required.

Early detection is essential to provide the best physiotherapy management to stabilise and slow the progression of scoliosis during growth.

Osana follows the Schroth method to prevent curve progression throughout growth and adulthood, maintain good quality of life, improve muscle strength, improve breathing function and improve aesthetics.

The Schroth method is physiotherapy approach to scoliosis treatment, based on exercises tailored to the client’s spinal curvature.

It is a method that is a nonsurgical option for scoliosis treatment with the main goal of preventing scoliosis from advancing. Exercises are modified for each client to return the curved spine to a more natural position.

Schroth exercises are designed to de-rotate, elongate and stabilize the spine in a three-dimensional plane.

Benefits of a physiotherapy approach to scolosis are:

  • Improved posture
  • Improved core stability and strength
  • Easier breathing
  • Less pain
  • Improved overall movement pattern and function
  • Improved self-management and understanding of the spine
  • Better pelvis alignment
